MY STORY

I became interested in wellness, clean beauty, and the concept of food as medicine shortly after my older daughter Olive was born and have continued to grow that knowledge since. Ironically, while I have spent over a decade learning in the field of wellness, I found myself at a point in my life where I was very unhealthy. I was doing everything I thought I was supposed to be doing and could not understand why my own health was declining. Gaining over thirty pounds, suffering from adrenal fatigue, increased anxiety, joint pain and stiffness, and an overall feeling of unease, I reached my rock bottom. What I eventually learned is that while I was eating traditionally healthy foods, they weren’t the right foods for me. I also wasn’t handling my life stressors in a productive way, and therefore those stresses affected my body and mind in ways I would have never imagined stress could do. Once I made my own health a priority, I began to explore what I need to thrive. It’s an ever-changing process as we age, but the simple act of listening to my body has made all of the difference for me.

My perspective on clean eating is aligned with the well-established practice of functional medicine, which states that food at its core, is medicine. Very often we treat the symptoms of our disease when we should be discovering and addressing the root cause. There are so many nourishing and delicious foods that we can easily add to our diets to increase our overall health.

My interest in energy healing evolved when I experienced firsthand what a positive impact energy healing had on me as a client. I started to become much more aware of how I felt when I was with certain people. We are created by energy and we all have the ability to absorb other people’s energy. Ever feel really great and uplifted around certain people and completely drained with others? As I learned more, I became fascinated with Reiki as an alternative healing modality. I found that when I acknowledged what situations and environments were productive for me, and which ones were causing me distress, I was able to make better decisions for myself, and therefore increased my overall well-being.

In addition to health coaching and energy healing, I help people navigate the complex universe of brands and products in every category so they can live cleaner lives. Few of us are aware of how many chemicals, endocrine disruptors and carcinogens are present in the products we use on our bodies and in our homes. Since our skin is our largest organ, these toxins can be absorbed into our bodies. This is why it is so important to pay attention to our daily toxic load and find ways to reduce it.

Prior to starting 4 12 Wellness, I earned a BA in Sociology from Ithaca College and graduated from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. In addition, I am a certified Reiki Master and have been trained in Transcendental Meditation. I spent over a decade in the advertising industry as both Director of Creative Services and Operations, and Creative Recruiter in addition to starting my own recruiting business, Agent K Recruiting.

Spiritual author and host of the Shine podcast, Mary Obana interviewed me.

Sometimes we can be so devoted to others, their happiness and well-being, we can lose ourselves.
In this episode, Mary invites Karen Gallucci, a mom turned Reiki Master and Holistic Health Coach, to share her story—a woman so committed to giving her daughters the childhood she never had, she lost herself in the process. Listen as Karen unabashedly shares how she disappeared and then found herself again, a beautiful example of how our life experiences shape who we are and position us uniquely to help others. - Mary Obana
